Interventional Radiology

Minimally invasive diagnostics and treatment

Banner Image

The basic concept behind interventional radiology is to diagnose or treat problems with the most minimally invasive technique possible. By using medical imaging to guide your doctor, many procedures can be done using simple needles and narrow tubes called catheters instead of more open surgery.

We partner with Diagnostic Radiologists to offer a broad range of interventional diagnostics and treatments through our medical imaging department. These procedures aim to maximize your benefit while minimizing your pain and hospital time.

Below are many of the interventional procedures we offer:

  • Arterial interventions: Minimally invasive procedures can help to treat narrowing or blockage of blood vessels around your body, outside of the heart. This includes:
    • Epistaxis embolization
    • Peripheral vascular disease
    • Renal artery stenosis
  • Pulmonary arterial interventions
    • Catheter-directed thrombolysis
    • Mechanical aspiration
    • Mechanical thrombectomy
    • Pulmonary AVM embolization
  • Dialysis access intervention and placement of temporary dialysis catheters
    • Graft/fistula interventions
    • Permanent tunneled hemodialysis catheters
    • Temporary non-tunneled catheters
  • Cancer treatments, including:
    • Selective arterial chemoembolization
    • Yttrium-90 therapy
    • Radiofrequency tumor ablation
    • Kyphoplasty for symptomatic compression fractures related to metastatic disease
    • Long-term pain control with celiac plexus ablations, etc.
    • Placement of chest wall and arm ports
    • Intrathecal chemo administration
  • Gynecology-related procedures, including:
    • Uterine artery embolization for nonsurgical treatment of uterine fibroids
    • Treatment of patients with chronic pelvic congestion syndrome as a result of pelvic varices
    • Uterine artery embolization for control of postpartum bleeding
  • Venous procedures, such as:
    • IVC filter placement
    • Varicocele devascularization with selective venous embolization
    • Groshong/PICC line/central venous catheter placements
    • Thrombolysis
  • Pain management procedures, including:
    • Kyphoplasty (when indicated) for treatment of symptomatic compression fractures
    • Nerve blocks, facet injections
  • Nonsurgical treatments, like:
    • TIPS procedures for treatment of variceal bleeding
    • Selective arterial embolization for GI and trauma related bleeding
    • Bronchial artery embolization for treatment of hemoptysis
    • BRTO for treatment of varices
  • Other procedures:
    • Image-guided biopsy, abscess drainage, etc.
    • Percutaneous nephrostomy and ureteral stent placement
    • Percutaneous biliary drainage and stenting of biliary strictures
    • Percutaneous nephrostomy and ureteral stent placement
    • Prostate artery embolization
    • Thrombin injections
    • Transcatheter mechanical thrombectomy • Tunneled drainage catheter for recurrent effusion or recurrent ascites
