Childbirth education classes offer you the opportunity to learn all your options and get all your questions answered with the most up-to-date, evidence-based information available. With this knowledge, you’ll move forward with confidence and peace to make the best choices for you and your baby’s personalized birth and growth together.
These classes will support you through your pregnancy, labor and delivery, breastfeeding, and caring for your newborn as a new mom and family.
All eClasses are self-paced and include access to content for 9 months following registration.
Labor and Birth Preparation: In-person class
This is a single three hour in-person class held at the Family Birth Place. Expecting individuals or pairs will interact with educators for the first two hours over topics meaningful to their labor and delivery experience including review of the stages of labor, coping tools and options, and what to expect during their stay from labor to meeting their new baby. The final hour of the course includes a tour of both the traditional labor rooms and the Midwife Suites, with an opportunity to orient to the different spaces and practice labor coping techniques.

Understanding Birth eClass
Based on an award-winning, evidence-based program, our self-paced eClass is organized into eight chapters covering:
- Pregnancy: Anatomy, discomforts, general and preterm labor warning signs, nutrition, body mechanics, exercise, and more
- Labor: Prepared for childbirth, signs of pre-labor, onset of labor, stages of labor with 3D animation, skin-to-skin contact and more
- Birth stories: See how the stages of labor unfold in real life and watch example of effective partner support, four complete births including a nonmedicated, epidural, cesarean and single mom
- Comfort techniques: Labor support, breathing, relaxation, massage, visualization, focal points, hydrotherapy, labor and pushing positions, back labor, long labor, advice for partners, and more.
- Medical procedures: Decision making, birth plans, questions to ask caregivers, induction and augmentation, fetal monitoring, IVs, medical pain relief, second-stage interventions, and more.
- Cesarean birth: Reasons for cesareans, preparation, the surgical procedure with 3D animation, benefits and risks, reducing the risk of cesarean birth, family-centered birth tips, recovery, breastfeeding, and more.
- Newborn: Newborn hospital procedures with an emphasis on skin-to-skin contact, going home, choosing your baby’s healthcare provider, newborn appearance, newborn’s world, senses, behaviors, safety issues, and more
- Postpartum: Involution, lochia, perineal care, warning signs, rooming-in, baby blues, postpartum depression, lifestyle changes, breastfeeding basics, hunger signs, feeding frequency, effective latch, getting support, and more.
The class includes nine months access to the Parent Toolbox and to the class content.

Understanding Natural Childbirth Techniques eClass
This class is designed to complement the comprehensive Understanding Birth eClass by providing information on the philosophy behind natural childbirth and a more in-depth look at comfort measures for labor. This self-paced class takes three to four hours to complete and is hosted by a certified nurse-midwife.
It includes 13 video clips, including birth stories and follow-along exercises. This class does not cover medical procedures, cesareans, newborns or postpartum; therefore, it is recommended to pair it with our comprehensive Understanding Birth eClass.

Understanding Your Newborn eClass
Understanding Your Newborn provides eight stand-alone chapters covering every essential topic to help you enter motherhood with confidence. Topics include:
- Newborn traits and behaviors
- Crying and comforting
- Feeding
- Diapering
- Newborn health and safety
The class includes nine months access to the Parent Toolbox and to the class content.

Understanding Breastfeeding eClass
A unique online learning experience that provides comprehensive information you can trust about breastfeeding. In this class, you’ll learn all about breastfeeding through instructive video clips, animations, and interactive games. You’ll also get a sense of what it’s really like to breastfeed as you hear from moms who have been there!
The class includes nine months access to the Parent Toolbox and to the class content.
