Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is the study of speech, language, voice, cognitive and swallowing problems. Through therapy, the problem is identified and a treatment plan is developed. If you or a loved one has one of the following problems listed below, speech therapy may help.

Speech problems

  • Difficulty pronouncing certain sounds or words
  • Slurred speech or weakened muscles of the mouth and face

Language problems

  • Difficulty understanding what you hear
  • Talking in conversation
  • Finding the words you want to say
  • Reading and writing

Voice problems

  • Difficulty producing voice at all
  • Having a voice that is not consistent with your age and sex
  • Poor clarity of voice

Cognitive problems

  • Difficulty with thinking skills that allow us to communicate effectively
  • Problem solve and use reasoning in our everyday lives
  • Children having difficulty in school may have cognitive problems
  • Recent problems with memory may also be caused by a cognitive impairment

Swallowing problems

  • Difficulty chewing
  • Pocketing food in the mouth
  • Getting the food down or coughing and choking when you eat or drink
