Community Benefit

Improving the health of our community

Guided by our mission, Adventist Health Tillamook’s calling is to help improve the lives of our friends and neighbors along the Northern Oregon coastline – not only by providing exceptional healthcare, but also by extending our impact beyond our hospital walls through strategic community investments.

Making an impact in our community

Every three years, Adventist Health Tillamook completes a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) that is grounded in comprehensive health and well-being data paired with the voices and experiences of community members. Guided by these insights, hospital and community leaders intentionally address the greatest health needs through the Community Health Implementation Strategy (CHIS).

The high needs outlined in our 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment are:

  • Access to care/Mental health
  • Community infrastructure (Transportation and childcare)
  • Housing

Together with Adventist Health leaders, local public health officials, community-based organizations, medical providers, students, parents, and members of selected underserved, low-income and minority populations, Adventist Health Tillamook intentionally develops a strategic plan to address the needs of our community.

Community investment

As part of our commitment to the health and well-being of the communities we serve, Adventist Health Tillamook makes strategic investments in local projects and programs that align with the priority focus areas identified in our Community Health Needs Assessment.

Types of projects we support

While access to healthcare is important, this aspect only impacts up to 20% of a person’s health and well-being. Social determinants of health such as housing, nutrition, education, income, family and social support, community safety, water, and air quality, among other factors, contribute to about 70% of a person’s overall health. To improve individual health, Adventist Health Tillamook recognizes that we must invest in community solutions that make it easier and more possible for people to thrive.

Adventist Health is committed to ensuring every person has the opportunity to achieve their best possible health and well-being. We strive to provide quality care for all, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, income, age, disability, or inability to pay. We are actively working to reduce barriers to care and augment social and environmental factors to decrease health inequities and help all people live longer, healthier lives.

Types of projects that are not eligible for funding

Requests for community investment that are typically not eligible for funding include:

  • Programs and projects in individual schools
  • Fireworks displays
  • Fundraising events during Sabbath hours (Friday sunset to Saturday sunset)
  • Events and programs not aligned with our healthcare mission
  • Lobbying
  • Contributions to endowments
