Dr. Terry Johnsson and Beulah Stevens

The Student Healthcare Leaders (SHL) program is an after school program that offers teens behind the scenes and hands-on exposure to the health care industry. Presented in partnership with Adventist Health, the program takes place at Adventist Health Portland. Each week, Student Healthcare Leaders will explore the clinical, technical and service roles that allow health care professional teams to deliver health, wholeness and hope.

The Student Healthcare Leaders program is the brainchild of Terry Johnsson, Adventist Health Portland’s mission integration executive. “When I was in high school I had the opportunity to volunteer at Adventist Health Portland,” says Terry. “At age 15, spending time behind the scenes at a major medical center with a director, Beulah Stevens, was the chance of a lifetime. This experience showed me that I too could work in the medical field one day. Today, I am a health care executive. At SHL, we want to give you the same opportunity to explore if the health care industry is for you.”
