X-Ray

X-ray is used to evaluate the chest, spine, skull, extremities, hips, pelvis and abdomen for suspected fractures and other indications of injury or abnormality.

What is an X-ray exam?

X-ray technology was invented completely by accident. In 1895, a German physicist named Wilhelm Rontgen made the discovery of X-rays while experimenting with electron beams in a gas discharge tube. His remarkable discovery led to one of the most important medical advancements in human history.

X-ray technology lets doctors see straight through human tissue to examine broken bones, cavities and swallowed objects with extraordinary ease. Modified X-ray procedures can be used to examine softer tissue, such as your lungs, blood vessels or intestines.

How can I schedule my appointment?

Most general X-ray exams do not require an appointment. These include:

• Abdominal (KUB)
• Bone
• Chest
• Head (skull)
• Spine

These exams can be done at Adventist Health Castle or at our satellite facility in Kāne‘ohe.

Exams that do require an appointment include studies involving:

• Upper gastrointestinal tract
• Lower gastrointestinal tract
• Video fluoroscopic swallowing exam (VFSE)
• Arthrograms
• Myelograms
• Hysterosalpingograms
• Lumber punctures (LP)

These X-ray procedures can only be done at Adventist Health Castle.

If you already have an order from your physician, you can schedule an appointment by calling (808) 263-5166 and then pressing 1.

How will I get my results?

Your results will be forwarded to your ordering physician within 24 hours of your exam. (Please contact your referring physician to learn when you can expect your results from their office.)
