Personalized care programs for patients with heart disease

Cardiac Rehabilitation is a program to help recovering heart patients and their families reduce the progression of heart disease and improve their quality of life. The Adventist Heart & Vascular Institute program emphasizes both exercise and education. All programs are built from the ground up to fit the unique needs of each patient. Keep reading for a basic outline of how this program works.

Exercise

You will exercise three times weekly for up to 12 weeks under medical supervision. Sessions include stretching and aerobic exercise using exercise equipment specially designed for heart patients. Our exercise equipment includes treadmills, stationary bikes, steppers and arm exercise machines.

Your exercise sessions will be tailored to meet your individual needs and help you reach your optimal level of activity.

Education

Education classes will help you reduce the chance of future heart problems by making lifestyle changes now. These classes include:

  • Information about heart disease
  • Exercise
  • Tobacco use
  • Diet
  • Diabetes
  • Stress management
  • Medications

Even people who are already exercising on their own can benefit by fine tuning their exercise program. Interaction with our staff and other participants provides encouragement and support to maintain lifestyle changes.

How do I participate?

You will need a doctor’s referral. Discuss the program with your doctor or contact the Cardiac Rehabilitation facility located at 401 I Street, Suite B, Marysville, or call (530) 741-3840. Your physician’s office may submit a referral by fax to (530) 741-8042.
