John Raffoul

John Raffoul is the president of Adventist Health White Memorial (AHWM), a 353-bed not-for-profit, faith-based, teaching hospital that provides a full range of inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and diagnostic services to the communities in and near downtown Los Angeles. White Memorial has maintained its mission of keeping the community healthy since 1913, serving more than 245,000 patients a year.

John began his career at White Memorial in 1984 as an accountant. In 1987 he left to serve as the controller at Casa Colina Hospital, Inc. in Pomona, and then vice president of finance & chief financial officer at Terrace Plaza Medical Center in Baldwin Park. He returned to AHWM in 1992, where he worked his way up through leadership positions – from chief finance officer to chief operating officer and executive vice president. John assumed the role of AHWM president in March 2015, while Adventist Health was starting to come together as a system, serving more than 80 communities on the West Coast and Hawaii.

With John’s longstanding, steadfast tenure at White Memorial, the medical center has been able to take its performance to the next level in terms of clinical quality, patient experience, associate and physician engagement and operations. John has successfully managed the automation of many IT systems including finance, payroll, and materials management. John spearheaded the development of the medical center’s code of business ethics and guiding principles. He oversaw the $250 million construction project to rebuild the medical center for seismic upgrades and campus development. John is dedicated to working with White Memorial associates, physicians, patients, and community partners to build strong working relationships that support a healthful work environment to better serve the needs of the community.

Under John’s leadership, Adventist Health White Memorial has built a solid financial framework to help face the future challenges in health care. Over the years, AHWM has received multiple distinguished awards and accolades, including Healthgrades’ 100 Best Hospitals Award™. In 2018 AHWM was the only hospital in California to receive the highest Gold-level CAPE Eureka Award for outstanding commitment to sustainable performance excellence through innovation, continuous improvement, and visionary leadership. In 2019, AHWM was the recipient of the highest presidential honor, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
