Speech/Language Pathology

Services for patients requiring voice, mouth & throat care

Our speech/language pathologists provide services in a variety of settings, including inpatient, outpatient, transitional-care unit and home care. We treat clients of all ages for a wide variety of conditions.

We treat children who have:

  • A stutter
  • Prolonged hoarseness, vocal nodules
  • Frequent ear infections that result in delayed speech development
  • Hearing problems
  • Feeding and swallowing problems related to their oral/motor development and/or sensitivity to tastes and textures

We treat adolescents (13–18 years old) who have:

  • A voice that does not change to the appropriate pitch during puberty
  • Experienced traumatic brain injury and need to relearn memory and cognitive strategies, oral/motor strength and safe-swallowing strategies
  • Swallowing problems
  • Prolonged hoarseness, breathy voice, vocal nodules
  • A stutter
  • Persistent tongue-thrust causing orthodontic problems

We treat young adults (19–44) and adults (45–65+) who:

  • Have had a stroke (aphasia, dysarthria, dysphagia, cognitive problems)
  • Have had a traumatic brain injury
  • Are post-laryngectomy (also prior to the operation)
  • Are post-oral/pharyngeal cancer
  • Are hard of hearing (relearning communication strategies)
  • Have Alzheimer's or dementia
  • Have wallowing problems
