Heart Month

You’re made for more. More milestones. More accomplishments. More healthy years with the people you love. That’s why Adventist Health Sonora is celebrating American Heart Month and promoting healthy lifestyles and cardiovascular treatment options throughout the month of February.

Heart Month is a great time to focus on everything that makes your heart happy. Check back often as we post more details and opportunities to participate in several Heart Month activities.

Heart Fest Children’s Event

Thursday, February 8

Join us at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds where daytime exhibits will be catered to students in grades 3-5, though children of all ages are welcome. Students can learn all about the heart and cardiovascular system with educational exhibits, fitness fun and healthy snacks.

Heart Fest Evening Event

Thursday, February 8

Our Heart Fest evening events will cater to adults with a cardiologist lecture, free heart-healthy meal, educational exhibits and health screenings. Space is limited, and reservations are required. RSVP here to secure your seat!

Educational booths, Mega Heart tours and health screenings including blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and body fat

4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Heart-healthy dinner and lecture by cardiologist Mark Miller, MD

Children’s Coloring Contest entries due

Establishing a focus on heart health early in life can lead to healthy habits that will last a lifetime! Download this fun coloring sheet featuring Pip the Penguin and show us the foods and activities that are keeping your heart healthy. Submit artwork by Thursday, February 29, using this form for a chance to win a selection of fun toys and games. Children of any age are welcome to participate! Winners will be contacted in the first week of March.

Blue Zones Project Celebration

Thursday, February 22

Join us from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Adventist Health Sonora and celebrate the Garden Café’s Blue Zones Project Approved™ designation! Enjoy free heart-healthy menu samples and learn what it means for our staff, patients and visitors that our café is Blue Zones Project Approved. Our culinary staff will also present information about organic and conventionally grown produce and share tips about preparing heart-healthy foods at home.

How to find the celebration: From main hospital entrance, take the elevator to the ground floor, turn left and turn left again to find the Garden Café.

Blue Zones Project Purpose Workshop

Thursday, February 22

After the celebration, Blue Zones Project Tuolumne County will host a Purpose Workshop at 1 p.m. A certified facilitator will help you discover, or rediscover, your gifts, talents and values. Find your purpose for a longer and healthier life – because heart health is more than just diet and exercise.

Heart Walk at Courthouse Square

Thursday, February 29 at noon

Join us for our final event of Heart Month to turn in your walking log and receive a small gift. You’ll also be entered in a drawing for the grand prize! Then walk around town and visit our local businesses, many of which will be decorated for Heart Month.
