Heart Month at Adventist Health Sonora
February is American Heart Month and Adventist Health Sonora is promoting healthy lifestyles all month long. Simple changes can have a big impact on your heart health, not to mention your overall feeling of wellbeing.
Be as healthy as you can be in 2023!
Heart Month is a great time to focus on everything that makes your heart happy.
-
Spend more time with the people you love.
Making time for the activities you enjoy with people who inspire you to be healthy and happy is a great first step for a heart-healthy life. -
Move more.
Getting your heart pumping is a great way to prevent cardiovascular disease while boosting your physical health and mental wellbeing. -
Eat wisely.
Find foods that satisfy your cravings while reducing risks to your heart and overall health. Snack on nuts, fruits and veggies. Limit foods high in added sugar, saturated fat and sodium that can lead to high blood pressure, clogged arteries and weight gain. -
Know your numbers.
Screening tests for cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar are simple ways to monitor your risk for heart disease and make changes when needed to protect your heart health. Your doctor can recommend screenings for your unique needs. -
Give back.
Research shows that volunteering and charitable giving can boost our emotional well-being, lower blood pressure and reduce stress.

Support heart care for our community
Cardiac Rehabilitation at Adventist Health Sonora helps individuals recover after heart attack, heart surgery and other cardiac events, providing a fun, supportive environment that promotes health and healing. The program uses a multidisciplinary approach of education and exercise to help patients with cardiovascular disease regain confidence and quality of life.
“The best experience out of all of this was cardiac rehabilitation,” says Tim Adamiak, an active and fit cattle rancher who survived a heart attack in August 2022 and recovered from triple bypass surgery with help from Cardiac Rehabilitation. “It really made a big difference.”
Tim, who prefers a walk outside to a walk on a treadmill, at first was put off by the gym equipment, but his outlook soon changed. "I look forward to going there," he said of cardiac rehabilitation, "and I'm going to miss it when it's over."
Tim saw noticeable increases in his stamina and strength each week, which gave him both the ability and the confidence to return to his ranch chores.
Help support the amazing team at Cardiac Rehabilitation purchase new equipment to keep hearts healthy in our community. Your gift to the Heart Care fund at Adventist Health Sonora will help to purchase a StarTrac S-TR treadmill and other equipment essential to their program.
As a thank you for your gift, we will send you a heart-shaped lapel pin, while supplies last.
