Medical Imaging

Adventist Health offers state-of-the-art diagnostic services including one of the most powerful MRI's in Northern California and a PET/CT scanner, used to diagnosis cancer and Alzheimer disease. CT scanning, nuclear medicine, digital x-ray, echocardiography services, ultrasound, digital mammography, 3D ultrasound and other advanced imaging services are also available for diagnosis and treatment.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

MRI uses a strong magnetic field and high-frequency radio waves to reveal organs and tissues with amazing clarity. MRIs are used to diagnose a number of conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular disease and musculoskeletal disorders as well as examining the soft tissues of the brain and spine.

Computed Tomography (CT) Scan

A CT scan is a specialized x-ray that creates clear, sharp images of many kinds of tissue, including lungs, bones and blood vessels. This painless diagnostic test is helpful in diagnosing conditions like cancer, cardiovascular disease and infectious diseases.

Bone Densitometry (DEXA) Scan

An enhanced x-ray (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry or DEXA) is a quick and painless procedure to measure bone density, usually from images of the lower spine and hips. Other procedures for measuring bone density utilize ultrasound waves.

Digital Mammography and Breast Health Services

Digital mammography is an x-ray imaging technique that aids in the early detection of breast cancer. Equipment used is similar to conventional mammography, but the image is captured by a computer instead of x-ray film, allowing for a better reading. Breast health services include breast biopsy, breast ultrasound, breast MRI and pink ribbon parties.

Nuclear Medicine Imaging

Radiopharmaceuticals are taken internally, for example, intravenously or orally. Then, external detectors (gamma cameras) capture and form images from the radiation emitted by radiopharmaceuticals.
