Adventist Health and Rideout Receives Cardiovascular Cath Lab Accreditation

The only Cath Lab in California to be recognized by the American College of Cardiology

Marysville, CA – Adventist Health and Rideout has received American College of Cardiology (ACC) Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation. Adventist Health and Rideout was awarded Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation with PCI based on rigorous onsite evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who come to the cardiac cath lab. The medical center is the first and only hospital in California to receive recognition for its evidence-based quality initiatives in the cardiovascular cath lab.

The cardiovascular cath lab at Adventist Health and Rideout is where advanced diagnostic and interventional procedures take place using minimally-invasive approaches through the groin, wrist or other access point to the cardiovascular system. Cath lab procedures include placing a stent to resolve a blockage in the heart or implanting a pacemaker.

“Our goal is to be a top performer nationwide when it comes to quality and patient-centered care,” said Eric Cooper, MPA, BSN, director of cardiovascular services and the cath lab at Adventist Health and Rideout. “This accreditation reaffirms to patients that we have high standards, consistent outcomes and high quality which is a result of following best practices that have been proven nationwide.”

The essential components of Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation outlined by the American College of Cardiology include cath lab governance, quality measures, pre-procedure assessment, peri-procedure (during procedure) care coordination, post-procedure hand-off and monitoring and clinical quality initiatives. Data submitted by the cath lab to the National Cardiac Data Registry is reviewed by ACC surveyors, as are notes from physician meetings, patient charts and formal policies.

Levy, MD, FACC, chair of the ACC Accreditation Management Board. “ACC Accreditation Services is proud to award Adventist Health and Rideout with Cardiac Cath Lab Accreditation with PCI.”

“The goal of our work is to standardize care so that no matter what physician is performing a procedure, processes are consistent and based on the latest research and evidence,” said Karanbir Grewal, MD, interventional cardiologist and medical director of the cath lab. “We have already seen improvements, with our goal to be in the top decile for all measures.”

Two of the protocols submitted by the medical center to the ACC as part of its accreditation application have been recognized as national exemplars and will be shared with hospitals nation-wide as models for their own accreditation journeys.

“We took on this project because it helped us to focus our efforts on constantly improving patient outcomes,” said Cooper. “We didn’t know that we were pioneers in the state, but we are proud to have this recognition that we provide the most innovative care model available.”
