Ladies Night Out Winner Donates Prize to Cancer Patients

In honor of national Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Adventist Health Sonora held the fifth annual Ladies Night Out on October 5 to raise breast cancer awareness and provide the community with education about breast health. More than 500 participants registered for the downtown event, visiting nearly 40 participating businesses that stayed open late and offered special deals and giveaways.

Participants were given a passport book with ads for each of the participating businesses. Each ad included a different breast health question and as participants visited each business, Adventist Health Sonora staff stationed at each business provided the answer and facilitated discussion about the topic.

In addition to breast health education, store and restaurant discounts, and free giveaways, participants also enjoyed free maniCURES provided by the Sonora High Cosmetology School, music, a photo booth and a fun night on the town with their friends. Many of the businesses decorated their windows with themes of breast health and Ladies Night Out participants voted on their favorite displays. The winners were Antique Attic/Project Feed our Kids, first place; Pine Tree Peddlers, second place; and Love Couture, third place.

Ladies Night Out participants who submitted their ballot for the window display contest were also entered in a drawing for an enormous gift basket which included two tickets to the 2018 Joie de Vie Gala, a fundraiser for the Cancer Patient Support Fund. This year’s winner is Carolyn Smith, a volunteer at Adventist Health Sonora. While Carolyn has taken the gift basket home to enjoy, she declined the Gala tickets and asked that the $350 (the value of the Gala tickets) be donated directly to the Cancer Patient Support Fund.

After another successful event, Adventist Health Sonora’s Breast Health Awareness Committee is already making plans for October 2018.
