Howard Memorial Hospital Unveils New Name and Mission

Event, 2017

WILLITS, CA – Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital (HMH) has been caring for the Willits community since 1928. Through the years, the hospital has evolved in an effort to address the growing needs of the community and beyond.

It is along these lines that HMH announced a new chapter in its history on Thursday, March 16, during an employee event that unveiled the hospital’s new brand direction, including a new name, expanded mission statement and core values that support its vision of transforming the health experience, outcomes and status of the Willits community. Going forward, Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital will be known as “Adventist Health Frank R. Howard Memorial”.

The new mission statement, “living God’s love by inspiring health, wholeness and hope”, broadens the hospital’s focus from solely caring for the sick to helping the community be healthier. It also reflects the hospital’s heritage of providing physical, mental, and spiritual care and staff to break down the walls of a traditional health system and extend their reach more deeply into the community.

“This truly signifies our commitment to providing the very best care for our friends and neighbors. We want them to come to us not just when they’re sick. But we also want to keep them well so they can live life to the fullest and keep this community thriving,” explains Kevin Erich, interim president and chief executive officer for HMH.

In addition to the expanded mission and new name, HMH is also introducing a new visual identity that represents the spirituality and fresh optimism of our organization. The tagline - “Together inspired”- speaks to the hospital’s coming together with communities throughout Mendocino County and the power that connection will have to move its neighbors toward a healthier life.

While the hospital and its affiliated clinic, including the Redwood Medical Clinic, must wait for final approval from the California Department of Health before fully switching to the new name, employees are excited about the new name and brand direction. “Today’s event was really exciting and I feel proud to be part of this team. It’s great to know that we’re already doing great work every day but this new mission just puts that into words and allows us to be more and do more for our community,” shares registered nurse, Kim Katri.
