New to Sanger, But Not to the Valley

Dental Care

SANGER – Dr. Hector Leon, an Exeter native, is back home in the Central Valley after serving one year as a dentist in the Bay Area. He’s now caring for patients at Adventist Health / Community Care – Sanger, which is expanding its dental services.

Dr. Leon speaks English and Spanish. His parents emigrated from Mexico to Exeter, where he and his four siblings were raised. He attended Golden West High School in Visalia and joined the United States Marine Corps., following graduation. Dr. Leon realized he wanted to join the medical field while attending community college in Fresno.

“I was volunteering in the emergency room at the Fresno Veterans Hospital when I saw a neurosurgeon helping a patient who was bleeding in the mouth following surgery,” says Dr. Leon. “The doctor used a laser to stop the bleeding. At that moment, I started to consider a career in dentistry to help with oral health.”

Dr. Leon attended California State University, Northridge, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology. He then graduated from the University of the Pacific Dental School in San Francisco and stayed in San Francisco to practice at West Portal Family Dentistry.

He is happy to be back in the Central Valley. When he’s not working, Dr. Leon enjoys reading, hiking and spending time with his wife and 6-month-old son.

He may be reached at Community Care – Sanger, 1939 Academy Ave., with a phone number of (559) 875-6900. For more information, please visit
