Adventist Health Portland Recognized Among Top 2% in Nation for Spine Surgery and Critical Care by Healthgrades

Awards & Recognition

Adventist Health Portland was named today among the top two percent in the nation for quality of critical care services and spine surgery according to this year’s evaluation from Healthgrades. Rankings are measured by volume-weighted performance.

“Our mission calls us to deliver the highest quality care to our community,” says David Russell, president and CEO of Adventist Health Portland. “We are proud of this recognition and confirmation that our continuing dedication to quality and safety makes a positive difference for every patient.”

Adventist Health Portland consistently ranks as one of the top hospitals in the Portland metropolitan area with organizations like Healthgrades, Leapfrog, and The Joint Commission. In 2016, the Oregon Health Authority’s Hospital Transformation Performance Program (HTPP) recognized Adventist Health Portland for meeting 10 out of 11 quality improvement metrics—the best performance of any hospital in Oregon.

Healthgrades, an independent organization that helps consumers make informed decisions about doctors and hospitals, evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions. Adventist Health Portland is a recipient of the following recognitions from Healthgrades for 2017:

  • Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Respiratory Failure for 4 Years in a Row (2014-2017)

Healthgrades’ newly released 2017 Report to the Nation demonstrates how clinical performance continues to differ dramatically between hospitals, both regionally and nationally. This variation in care has a significant impact on health outcomes. For example, from 2013-2015, if every hospital collectively performed similarly to hospitals receiving 5 stars as a group, 223,412 lives could potentially have been saved and 162,215 complications potentially avoided.* A 5-star rating indicates that a hospital’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected when treating the condition or performing the procedure being evaluated.
