Gala Raises Over $128,000 for New Cancer Center

Philanthropy

More than $128,000 was raised at Sonora Regional Medical Center’s 15th annual Joie de Vie Gala at Ironstone Vineyards, a benefit for the new Cancer Center. A capacity, sold-out crowd enjoyed a festive evening that included dinner, silent auction, presentation of the Irving Symons Award, and an update on the Cancer Center project. Musical entertainment was provided by the Nouveaux Arts String Quartet.

“It is heartwarming to witness the outpouring of support from our community,” stated Gail Witzlsteiner, Director of the Foundation. “The Joie de Vie Gala Committee worked very hard this year to raise $28,455 at the silent auction. Guests seemed to enjoy themselves and we raised money for a very important cause. I am so appreciative of the generous support of our donors and the tremendous help of the Joie de Vie Gala committee members and volunteers.”

The Irving Symons Award for outstanding, long-term community service was presented to Bill and Suzy McEntire by hospital president Andrew Jahn. The McEntires have been living in Tuolumne County for more than 25 years and have served the citizens of the Mother Lode in both the public and private sectors. They moved their semiconductor processing furnace business to Tuolumne County in 1988 and created jobs for hundreds of local citizens. They have provided volunteer leadership to the business community and the not-for-profit sector, including Sonora Community Hospital and then Sonora Regional Medical Center.

The Irving Symons Award, named after the late Irving Symons, recognizes long-term, outstanding community service. Former recipients include Irving Symons, Frank Salel, H. Randolph Holder, Robert Cutler, Pete Kerns, Pete and Sue Kleinert, Joe Martin, Chuck and Willy Evans, Mary Laveroni, Pat and Dusty Rhodes, Ty Wivell and Dick Pland.
