Adventist Health Earns “A” Rating for Hospital Safety in Portland

Awards & Recognition

Adventist Medical Center is one of only two Portland Metro Area Hospitals to receive the highest recognition for hospital safety by a leading independent healthcare industry watchdog. The Leapfrog Group has given the hospital an “A” grade for excelling in protecting patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections.

This recognition highlights team-based commitment to clinical excellence that guides a coordinated and personal approach to healthcare. The organization firmly believes that patient safety is part of every job description.

“Each member of our team is in the business of saving lives,” says Joyce Newmyer, president and CEO at Adventist Medical Center. “We are accountable to our community, and to each other, which drives us all to create the very best environment to receive care, practice medicine and come to work each day.”

Leapfrog assigns a letter grade (A to F) to hospitals calculated from a group of 28 measures of publically available hospital safety data. Of the 28 measures used to calculate the scores, 15 are process-related or structure-related and 13 are outcome-based. Data comes from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, plus Leapfrog's own survey. More than 2,500 U.S. hospitals are graded by Leapfrog each year.
