Walla Walla General Hospital Invites You to Love Your Heart This February

Heart Health

February is American Heart Month and Walla Walla General Hospital is hosting a series of events and offerings intended to raise awareness of heart health, and encourage our community to “love their heart.” A complete list of Walla Walla General Hospital’s Heart Month activities and events can be found at

Did you know that heart disease is the leading cause for men and women in the United States? About 800,000 Americans die from heart disease every year. There are five simple steps to learn your heart age:

  1. Gather all your health information and heart history
  2. Ideally, know your blood pressure and cholesterol numbers, but it is not necessary. The WWGH Lab is offering a Coronary Risk Panel screening (cholesterol and glucose) for $25. You must fast for 12 hours prior to the test. A doctor’s order is not required.
  3. Take your Heart Health Assessment online at
  4. Review your results: the test provides you with a free, personalized report about your heart, including your risk factors
  5. Discuss your results with your doctor, especially if you are at high-risk

In an effort to get kids talking about and expressing their unique views on heart health, Walla Walla General Hospital is holding a “HeartWork” drawing contest. Entry forms are available at local elementary schools and online at, and feature the following text: “How do you care for your heart? Draw it! Whether it’s a favorite sport, healthy food, or special person whose heart you care about, show us your HeartWork.” Submissions will be displayed at Book & Game for the last two weeks of February, and prizes will be awarded for the most creative and inspiring masterpieces. More information, including a downloadable entry form, complete contest rules, and submission guidelines can be found at

We’re partnering with local restaurants to encourage diners to think about their heart when choosing their meals. Throughout February, look for dishes specially-marked dishes with the “Dine Out Heart Smart” logo at: Clarette’s Restaurant, Graze, Jacobi’s Italian Café & Catering, The Maple Counter Café, South Fork Grill, and Stone Soup Café for heart-healthy entrée offerings.
