Adventist Health Plan coverage to begin Jan. 1 in Kings County

Insurance December 4, 2015 (Roseville, Calif.) – In support of Adventist Health’s focus on improving community health, the health care system is entering into a new relationship with Health Net and CalViva Health starting Jan. 1.

“The launch of our health plan in California’s Central Valley is a milestone for Adventist Health, and for the patients and communities we serve,” said Jeff Conklin, President/CEO of Adventist Health Plan.

“As the health care industry rapidly evolves and the government places more emphasis on population health, Adventist Health is building an integrated system that aligns all the elements needed to best serve patients and remain competitive in the market.”

Adventist Health’s licensed Knox-Keene health plan initially will subcontract with Health Net to administer the benefits to approximately 13,000 managed Medi-Cal members in Kings County. According to Conklin, the health plan will be a focus of the system’s continued growth during 2016.

“This new service reflects the heart of our mission to share God’s love through healing,” said Wayne Ferch, president/CEO of Adventist Health/Central Valley Network, which operates four hospitals, 32 Community Care clinics and other services in five Central California counties. “By participating in the insurance side of health care, we take more responsibility for managing patients’ complete health care needs, including the total cost and quality of care.”

Approximately 12 million Californians are enrolled in Medi-Cal, including about 44,000 in Kings County, and membership is growing under the Affordable Care Act.
