WWGH & Walla Walla Clinic Announce Surgical Care Collaboration

General

Patients in Walla Walla Will Benefit from Increased Access to General Surgeons

Walla Walla General Hospital and the Walla Walla Clinic are pleased to announce two important developments in surgical care for patients in Walla Walla:

Adventist Health general surgeons join Walla Walla Clinic. General surgeons Scott Newbold, MD, and Daryl Reid, MD, currently with Adventist Health Surgical Specialists, will become part of the Walla Walla Clinic. This change comes as the Walla Walla Clinic's general surgeon, Dr. Alexis Driggs, has decided to leave the community to be closer to family. Beginning in August, Drs. Newbold and Reid will replace Dr. Driggs in the Walla Walla Clinic's general surgery department and will remain active on the WWGH campus.

This transition developed out of conversations between both organizations regarding ways to better serve their respective patients and provide surgical care to the Walla Walla community. With the change, Drs. Newbold and Reid will be able to offer their patients surgical care in the Walla Walla Clinic's Ambulatory Surgery Center.

"We are excited to have two experienced surgeons with a history of quality care in Walla Walla join our organization,” says Kevin Michelson, CEO of the Walla Walla Clinic. "We view this cooperative effort with Walla Walla General Hospital as a tremendous opportunity to improve the quality and value of healthcare available in our community."

Monty Knittel, president & CEO of Walla Walla General Hospital, says this new relationship is an important step in preparing for a more integrated healthcare environment in the future. "The future of healthcare is for hospitals and physician groups to work together to provide high-quality evidenced-based healthcare. The Walla Walla Clinic understands those needs and we look forward to working closely with them on behalf of our patients."

Patients of both practices are being notified of these changes and how they may be affected.

Walla Walla Clinic to lease office space on the Walla Walla General Hospital campus. The space is currently occupied by Adventist Health Surgical Specialists and will accommodate specialist physicians from the Walla Walla Clinic who will rotate onto the hospital campus on a weekly basis. Specialties currently planned for rotation include general surgery, orthopedic surgery and gastroenterology with other specialties being considered in the future.
