First Baby Born at Ukiah Valley Medical Center in 2014!

Patient Stories

Ukiah welcomes its first baby of 2014! Baby girl Carson (last name) was born at 1:27 a.m. on January 3, at the Family Birth Center at Ukiah Valley Medical Center and is welcomed by her mother Erica Carson Jr., and father Craig Carson Jr. of Redwood Valley.

Baby girl Carson, is the first to an average of 800 to 900 babies that will be born at UVMC in 2014. Karen E. Crabtree, M.D. obstetrician and gynecologist delivered baby Carson. “She’s a healthy baby girl,” shared Dr. Crabtree, “It’s always exciting to deliver the first baby of the New Year!”

For the Carson’s they are calling this their miracle baby! In 2011 Craig Carson Jr. was diagnosed with brain cancer and has been undergoing treatment for the past two years. “For us this is a real miracle since neither of us thought we would be able to have another child because of the cancer treatment Craig has undergone,” said Mrs. Carson. The Carson’s new daughter joins three siblings, Aliyah (9), Yoosha (5) and Cimewa (4).

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, FastStats on Births and Natality, there are on average 3,953,590 births in the Unites States each year, that’s 12.7 births per population of 1,000. This would imply that there are close to 11,000 babies born on New Year’s Day.

Since our baby girl doesn’t have a name yet there are many name predictions for 2014 that could help the Carson’s make their decision. A recent article sited in the Huffington Post on December 6, 2013, sited from Nameberry predicts that the hottest trends in baby names in 2014 will be:

Mrs. Carson Jr. also wanted to share how grateful she was to the nursing staff and to the remarkable difference in how modern and comfortable the Family Birth Center was. “I had my last baby here four years ago, and there is a noticeable difference in how modern and updated everything is and even how comfortable the beds are!”
