Four Physicians Honored with Mission Awards

Awards & Recognition

CENTRAL VALLEY – Four Adventist Health / Central Valley Network physicians were honored with Physician of the Year Mission Awards at Adventist Health's Leadership Symposium in Sacramento on Oct. 14

The physicians and others in the four-state Adventist Health system were honored at the event because of their compassionate drive, exemplary care and community service.

The central Valley physicians honored are:

Dr. Romeo Castillo of Adventist Health / Physicians Network in Hanford, and program director for the Hanford Family Practice Residency Program

“I feel that being a doctor is an opportunity that is not given to everyone,” Dr. Castillo said. “I consider it as a gift that I have to share so I can fully appreciate its purpose and value.”

Dr. Joan Rubinstein of Adventist Health / Community Care – Fowler

“The Adventist Health mission is about access for the underserved, and it’s sincere,” Dr. Rubinstein said. “You can’t address the physical needs if we don’t understand the whole person. We have to make sure our patients have a sound mind and spirit, too.”

Dr. René Charles of Adventist Health / Community Care – Dinuba and Adventist Medical Center – Selma

“I feel strongly that we as doctors should approach medicine in a fashion that establishes medicine as a service to allow patients to participate in their health care decisions and leave allowance for the appropriately applied philosophy of ‘the patient is always right’.”

Dr. Oleh Wolowodiuk, medical director of Emergency Department at Adventist Medical Center – Reedley, and Adventist Health / Community Care – Reedley Cypress, Reedley Children’s and Parlier Newmark

“My approach is to try to treat each patient as if they were a member of my own family,” Dr. Wolowodiuk said. “I enjoy establishing relationships with patients and their families and getting to know them as people.”
