St. Helena Hospital’s 23rd Annual Golf Tournament with PGA Legend Johnny Miller Raises $55,000

Napa Valley, CA- St. Helena Hospital’s 23rd annual Golf Tournament featuring PGA legend Johnny Miller took place at Silverado Country Club on May 20, 2013. Charitable proceeds from the event totaled $55,000 - a noteworthy 10% increase from the previous year – benefitting Intensive Care Unit upgrades at St. Helena Hospital Napa Valley.

"We are thankful for the support of our volunteers, players and sponsors who contributed to our goal," says Terry Newmyer, President and CEO of St. Helena Hospital. "The funds raised will go directly to upgrading our life-saving Intensive Care Unit."

Participants in the tournament started their morning with an informative and entertaining Skills Clinic featuring Johnny Miller and a guest appearance by his grandson. Throughout the day, Miller visited each team on the fabled North Course where he personally handed each player an autographed golf ball, and posed for a photo opportunity.

According to the man who once shot a final round 63 to win the U.S. Open, "When it comes to providing high quality health care for Napa Valley, St. Helena Hospital makes a difference." Johnny went on to remark, "It is truly a miracle, the lives that are saved thanks to St. Helena Hospital's Intensive Care Unit."

After a day of golf, participants gathered for an awards dinner, silent auction, and benefit drawing, and enjoyed a heartfelt presentation by Miller on the value of proper mental preparation to play competitive golf and the importance of taking time for family and friends.

"The tournament gets better each year due to the amazing support from our neighbors and local businesses," commented Roger Trinchero, Vice Chairman/CEO of Trinchero Family Estates and honorary Co-Chair of the tournament. "We look forward to seeing everyone again next year on May 19 for this wonderful cause."
