Willits, CA — On Tuesday, June 11, Frank R. Howard Memorial Hospital (HMH) hosted its annual Service Awards and Strawberry Feed on the back lawn. At the event, employees from various departments were honored for their years of service as well as volunteers for their hours of service and dedication to the hospital. All in all, 46 employees with a combined total of about 640 years and 17 volunteers with a combined total of about 36,900 hours were recognized for their commitment to HMH and the Willits community.

Employees who have worked for Adventist Health for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 35, and 40 years were called to the front to accept an HMH service award pin and bonus check from CEO Rick Bockmann, CFO Brandon Parker, and VP of Patient Care Karen Scott, RN. Dr. Tedd Dawson was announced as the 2013 Physician of the Year, and Saundra Barrera was awarded the first annual Jann Lamprich volunteer service award. In honor of Jann Lamprich’s 60+ years of service to HMH and the Howard Foundation, this special award will be given annually to an Auxiliary Volunteer who demonstrates exemplary service to the hospital. The volunteer will be awarded a pin and a plaque including his or her name will be mounted on the wall of the hospital.

“HMH is made up of a team of individuals that are extremely dedicated and loyal,” Bockmann said. “Our community is truly blessed.”

Eighty-five years ago, on May 20, 1927, Howard Hospital opened its doors and the frontier spirit and culture of Neighbors Helping Neighbors® began. The purpose of the Annual HMH Service Awards and Strawberry Feed is to recognize the dedication to our mission, and to celebrate the contributions of our employees, physicians and volunteers who embrace the culture, history, and spirit of Howard Memorial Hospital. In keeping with our frontier spirit and led by Masters of Ceremony Dennis Long, Chaplain, and Arpad Peter, Laboratory Director, the Awards Ceremony followed a western theme and employees wore western gear. True to tradition, employees enjoyed strawberries and ice cream following the ceremony.

“It was really great to see all the members of our HMH Family’s years of service acknowledged and celebrated,” Peter said. “One cannot help but be impressed to see of all the years of dedication in one place and to tie faces to a legacy of commitment. All this together shows what a big difference our small hospital makes.”
