Three Progressive Physicians Unite

“Unity is strength…when there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved. ”That’s a quote from the late Mattie Stepanek (July 17, 1990 – June 22, 2004), American poet and author of bestselling book, Heartsong. The quote seems appropriate since two renowned cardiologists and a progressive family practitioner are working together to provide easier access to health care in Mendocino and Lake counties.

According to Darcie Antle, director of clinic and physician group operations for the Mendocino-Lake region of the Northern California Network of Adventist Health, “We are excited to announce that Drs. Jon Portnoff, M.D., John Minotti, M.D., both well renowned cardiologists, and Peter Cho, M.D., family practitioner and obstetrician, have recently joined the Adventist Health Physicians Network (AHPN) practice. This office is located at 115 Hospital Drive in Ukiah, on the corner of Perkins and Hospital Drive.”

Furthermore, the uniting of Drs. Portnoff and Minotti also brings the newly formed Adventist Heart Institute (AHI) to Ukiah. AHI is a progressive group of physicians, diagnostic services, and interventional care that offer a continuum of care throughout the Northern California Network of Adventist Health. The NCN links five hospitals in the region: Howard Memorial Hospital, St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake, St. Helena Hospital Napa, St. Helena Behavioral Health Hospital Vallejo, and Ukiah Valley Medical Center.

Together the specialists involved in the AHI provide non-invasive to invasive procedures to care for cardiac patients ranging from stress tests, echocardiograms, pacemakers, and vascular surgeries and even open-heart surgery.

“Dr. Portnoff has been practicing in Ukiah for almost 20 years and cares for his patients throughout the cardiac process, whether it is advanced testing to a procedure,” shared Antle.

Dr. Portnoff is a graduate of American University of the Caribbean. He did his residency at the University of Wisconsin Medical School in Milwaukee, and had his fellowship training at Loma Linda University Medical School before coming to Ukiah.

“Dr. Minotti has been seeing patients in this area since 1993,” continued Antle.

In addition to caring for cardiac patients in Ukiah, Dr. Minotti's Lakeport office can also perform advanced testing which includes 24/30 day monitors, echocardiography, carotid ultra sounds, and nuclear cardiology studies.

“Through these services Dr. Minotti is able to closely monitor his patients through their cycle of care and treatment. It also gives his Mendocino county based patients local access to his care. He will continue to maintain his office in Lakeport.”

The newly formed AHPN practice will be joined by Dr. Cho who has been practicing in Ukiah since 1995. “Dr. Cho is well liked by his patients and specializes in both family medicine and obstetrics, giving him the opportunity to be with his patients throughout the life cycle of care,” explained Antle.
