SJCH Announces New Property Acquisition on Chester Avenue

News Here we grow again!

San Joaquin Community Hospital (SJCH) has purchased several properties along the east side of Chester Avenue, across the street from the hospital.

These additional lots are located just north of The Cancer Center at SJCH, which remains under construction. That facility will be a four-story, 60,000-square-foot, LEED-certified building. It will be the first comprehensive, hospital-based cancer center in Kern County. The center will open in late 2012.

Demolition of the existing structures on these newly acquired properties is underway and more is expected to begin within the next two weeks, including the buildings that formerly housed Bekins Moving & Storage, All-American Carpet and Emil’s Body Shop located along the 2600 and 2700 block of Chester Avenue.

Construction on another new building on these properties will soon follow. The plans for the building’s specific use are currently under discussion. Additional details of the project will be announced in the future once they are finalized.

“We are very excited that SJCH continues to be a part of downtown Bakersfield’s revitalization through the beautiful medical corridor we have helped established on this part of Chester Avenue,” said Jarrod McNaughton, vice president of marketing and business development. “We look forward to a bright future as we add to the local healthcare landscape.”
