New Technology Keeps Families Informed

News

Ukiah Valley Medical Center recently introduced SurgiNet tracking boards into the patient care experience in an effort to help family, friends and loved ones more easily track patients through the surgical process.

“The board allows family members to track the patient’s progress through the perioperative process [admission, anesthesia, surgery, and recovery.],” said Heather Van Housen, Vice President of Patient Care at UVMC.

Van Housen continued, “Families are given a confidential tracking number that enables them to look at the board and track their loved ones progress. Tracking boards are located in the surgery waiting areas, and surgical suites. This allows families and friends to receive up-to-date information at any time during their loved ones procedure... Even though the boards keep you posted our nurses and staff are always ready and willing to answer any questions.”

“In addition, patients will no longer have to register for surgery in the emergency department or wait there until preoperative is ready for them. Guests can now register for all procedures in the Outpatient Pavilion located at 245 Hospital Drive in Ukiah,” stated Van Housen.

Willits resident, Shannon Mahler, had a great experience tracking her mother’s surgery using the SurgiNet tracking board, “I think this is a great service. I could see where my mom was and where she was going throughout the whole process.”
