Hospice Light Up a Life Concludes

General

The Light Up a Life fundraising campaign for Adventist Health/Hospice ended at noon on Monday, January 7, 2008, with the Reading of the Names ceremony at the Tillamook Creamery Association Visitor’s Center. Community members Joyce Moe, Mike Waud, and Mark Labhart, together with Hospice staff Martha Araiza and Debbie Hajny, joined in reading aloud the 570 individual names that were honored or remembered with $21,006 in contributions this holiday season. Interspersed through the reading of the names and after the last name was read, the peal of handbells resounded through the room. Special music was provided by the Sacred Heart Folk Group.

Even more vital than the dollar amount raised is the continued ability to offer compassionate end-of-life care to all Hospice patients and their families in Tillamook regardless of their ability to pay. Community support and contributions, both during the Light Up a Life fundraiser and throughout the year with memorial contributions, honors our loved ones, helps to keep their memories alive in our hearts, and supports the services of Hospice. In 2007, Hospice served 101 admitted patients and their families.

“To all who participated in this year’s Light Up A Life campaign we say a heartfelt thanks,” states Dorene Redfern, Tillamook Home Care Services manager. “We are grateful for the support the community has provided in helping meet the needs of Hospice patients and their families throughout the Tillamook County.”
