New Wellspring Site Opens in North Tillamook County

Tillamook County General Hospital is pleased to announce the opening of a new Wellspring Respite Day Center site in North Tillamook County. Starting on May 15, 2008, Wellspring will serve guests from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays at Covenant Community Church, 36495 Highway 101 North in Manzanita.

Wellspring is designed for adults who suffer from memory loss or have cognitive or physical limitations that require direct supervision. In addition to offering a "day away" for weary caregivers, Wellspring provides an array of activities, nutritious meals, snacks, music and simple crafts and games for the participants. A licensed nurse is on hand to manage medication and personal care. There is a nominal charge of $29 a day; however, no one is turned away due to the inability to pay.

"Families tell us that Wellspring is a godsend," states Linda Heyne, Director of Volunteer Services and Faith in Action. "It provides caregivers with a day of rest while giving a fun-filled day to their loved ones."

Pre-registration is required in order for caregivers to utilize Wellspring. The families may call Faith in Action at 503-815-2272 or 1-800-356-0460, extension 2272, to obtain the forms. To assist overwhelmed caregivers, you may also contact Faith in Action directly and staff will contact the families and assist them with the enrollment forms.

Wellspring Respite Day Centers are provided through Faith in Action, a community outreach program of Tillamook County General Hospital that also offers in-home volunteer assistance. Other current locations for Wellspring include: the Tillamook Seventh-day Adventist Church on the first and third Wednesdays, the Tillamook United Methodist Church on the second and fourth Tuesdays, and Beaver Community Church on the second and fourth Thursdays.
