Faith in Action Highlight

General

Joel served in the Air Force from 1950 to 1954. He fought in the Korean War, flying 44 combat missions on a B29. When Joel came home from the war, a friend introduced him to Dolores on a blind date. They were married on February 3, 1956, and had three daughters and a son. They raised their family in the Portland area.

In 1977, they bought a house in Garibaldi, visiting on the weekends. In 1987, they moved here permanently. They became very involved in their community. Joel was the Mayor of Garibaldi in the early 1990’s for four years.

When Joel and Dolores learned about Wellspring respite day centers from an article in the Headlight Herald, they decided to pay a visit. Joel has been a guest at our Tillamook Methodist Church site ever since. Joel comes to Wellspring while Dolores volunteers at the Kit-n-Caboodle store in Tillamook. Joel says that what he likes about Wellspring is that it gives him time away by himself, and the ladies at Wellspring are so nice.

Faith in Action is blessed to minister to caregivers and guests such as Joel and Dolores at our Wellspring respite day centers. It is our privilege to honor this couple for their love for each other and their determination to use every resource available to live their lives to the fullest.
