Girl Scout Juniors Warm Hearts, Gift Hospital Patients Handmade Blankets

It was all smiles and joy as Girl Scout Juniors Troop 65436 arrived at Adventist Health Simi Valley on the afternoon of July 10 to share their Bronze Award project with several lucky patients at the hospital. Their special project included hand-making lap blankets to keep our patients cozy and comforted during their stay.
“The Bronze Award is one of the highest honors that a Girl Scout Junior can achieve,” said Joseph Ayala, Simi Valley council member and father of a Girl Scout Junior. “To get the award, the girls work together to identify a need in the community and devise a way to meet that need.”
The gifting of the completed blankets is the culmination of the girls’ Bronze Award achievement.
In total, the girls presented 12 hand-made blankets to patients in person at Adventist Health Simi Valley, then embarked on a tour of the hospital which included the facility’s Education Department and cardiac catheterization (cath) lab. They learned how to do hands-only CPR and observed how the high-tech and delicate equipment in the cath lab saves the lives of patients with heart problems.
“This is such great, real-world exposure for them to see what goes on inside a hospital,” said Council Member Ayala. “And being able to present their gifts in person and see how grateful the patients were really brought home how much they can make a difference in their community.”
“We’re honored and humbled that Troop 65436 chose Adventist Health Simi Valley and our patients as recipients of their generosity and love in their Bronze Award journey,” added Jon Yipp, Business Development Executive at the hospital. “It was truly a blessing to see how much joy they brought to our patients and contributed to their comfort and healing.”

We hope to see some of you on staff at Adventist Health Simi Valley someday in the future!
