Gastric sleeve surgery

Up to 80% of the stomach is surgically removed, drastically reducing the amount of food the stomach can hold (and, therefore, hunger). It also reduces the sugars absorbed into the blood, an important consideration for people with type-2 diabetes.

Gastric bypass surgery

If your body-mass index is 45+, you and your doctor might consider gastric bypass (also called Roux-en-Y bypass). With this procedure, the stomach is bypassed entirely, replaced by a small pouch.
