Caring for our caregivers

Stress, tragedy, and trauma appear frequently in healthcare settings. We are here for you. If you or someone you work with is experiencing signs of distress, heightened emotions, or compassion fatigue, the Code Lavender team is here for you.

Initiate a Code Lavender

Dial 0 from any AHGL phone to call the hospital operator to page Code Lavender.

Anyone can initiate a code lavender

Caller should be prepared to provide the intended recipient’s name, unit assignment, and a brief description of the event.

Once initiated, a specially trained AHGL Chaplain will deploy to support those affected. The Code Lavender response team is accessible 24-hours per day, seven days per week.

Our mission to inspire wholeness and hope extends to our fellow team members as well. Calling for a Code Lavender can be helpful for yourself or fellow associate. Code Lavender can be requested for:

  • Situations of high stress, emotional distress
  • traumatic experiences or tough news
  • end-of-life protocols
  • Feeling drained by compounding, challenging work-life events

This resource is meant to provide holistic support during difficult times – the activator does not necessarily need to be a major event.

Any situation that affects staff members' feelings of physical or emotional well-being could be a reason for a Code Lavender. Examples of situations might include, but are not limited to:

  • Traumatic patient death or injury
  • Combative patient interaction
  • Conflict resolution/de-escalation
  • Difficulty managing work-life balance
  • Workplace member illness or death
  • Grief

Confidentiality Notice: All Code Lavender interactions remain confidential

Respecting our teammates privacy and personal information is of the utmost importance. Unlike other color-coded emergency calls, Code Lavender activates with subtlety. Overhead announcements and radio alerts are NOT used for Code Lavender. Instead, the operator contacts the on-call chaplain to relay incident information and the chaplain responds accordingly.
