Adventist Health Ukiah Valley - Community Benefit

Adventist Health Ukiah Valley is, first and foremost, here to serve our community. We do that by providing healthcare to families in the area, but also by holding public events that advance our mission of health and wellness.

In 2022, Adventist Health provided:

$67.5 million in charity care
$25.5 million in community health improvement
$28.8 million in education and research
$287.9 million in Medicaid
$442.2 million in Medicare
$206.4 million subsidized health services
$1.058 billion total

Children’s Health Fair

The Children’s Health Fair is a free event open to the public, held in a low-income neighborhood near Adventist Health Ukiah Valley. This event offers free health screenings such as eye screenings, hearing tests, blood sugar tests, dental checks, scoliosis checks and flu shots (to adults).

The event also focuses on childhood trauma and childhood obesity.

Mental health education: Adventist Health Ukiah Valley partners with local mental health organizations for the health fair to educate children on how to escape an abusive situation and practice mindfulness (if a trauma has already occurred). We also provide information on local resources.

Daily healthy habits: There are many opportunities to teach the community about fitness, nutrition and safety. Our staff educate families about which foods are best for overall health as well as shopping healthy on a budget. We also teach children fun exercises they can do at home. The Children’s Health Fair even has bike safety course to get kids out of the house and moving safely. Each child leaves with a bike helmet.

Adventist Health Ukiah Valley partners with five other organizations to plan and execute the event. We offer services including pediatrics, family practice, Better Breathers club, diabetes education and our rural health clinics.

Diabetes information

Our diabetes education team is always working in our community, checking blood sugars and providing education on diabetes as well as general nutrition education. They visit health benefit fairs as well as host classes in English and Spanish.

By doing this, our diabetes education team has reached hundreds of people in our community — including those who did not realize they had diabetes. These community members are referred to a doctor for follow-up care before the illness becomes unmanageable.
