Important Update for Medicare Advantage Members
Last Updated: April 6, 2026
At Adventist Health, your health and peace of mind are at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we’re committed to keeping our community informed whenever changes in insurance coverage may affect your care.
Effective April 3, 2026, Adventist Health is no longer in-network with Hill Physicians Medical Group (Hill Physicians) for Medicare Advantage members.
This change was an independent decision made by Hill Physicians to no longer include Adventist Health doctors’ offices, clinics, and outpatient services in its network. We understand that changes to your access to care can be concerning, and we are here to help you navigate this transition.
Who is impacted?
Medicare Advantage Members: This change applies only to members whose Medicare Advantage health plan is managed through Hill Physicians (check your insurance card for the "Hill Physicians" logo or name).
Commercial and Medi-Cal Members: You are not impacted by this change. Your access to Adventist Health through your Hill Physicians medical group assignment remains the same.
While this change affects insurance coverage, it does not change the way we care for you. Your care will always be our top priority, and we hope you will continue trusting Adventist Health for your healthcare needs.
What you can expect moving forward
We know changes like this can feel big. Here’s what you can still count on from Adventist Health:
Frequently asked questions
We’ve gathered answers to the questions we hear most often. Our goal is to give you clear information so you can stay focused on your health and well‑being.
What is happening between Adventist Health and Hill Physicians?
Effective April 3, 2026, Hill Physicians ended Adventist Health’s participation in its provider network for Medicare Advantage members.
Following this change, Adventist Health primary care offices, specialty clinics, and outpatient services are now considered out‑of‑network for Medicare Advantage members who receive their care through Hill Physicians.
Hill Physicians may reassign affected Medicare Advantage members to another in‑network doctor or clinic to ensure continued access to covered services.
What does it mean to be in- or out-of-network?
Your network is the specific group of doctors, hospitals, and clinics that your health plan and medical group have agreed to work with.
- In-network: These are providers (doctors, hospitals, or clinics) that have a contract with your health plan and/or medical group. When you receive care from an in-network provider, your care is covered by your plan and coordinated through your medical group.
- Out-of-network: These are providers that do not have a contract with your health plan or medical group. In many cases, your health plan will not cover care from out-of-network providers, and your medical group (Hill Physicians) may reassign you to a different doctor or clinic that is still in their network.
Even if your health plan (like a Medicare Advantage plan) is generally accepted by Adventist Health, your Medical Group (Hill Physicians) acts as the "manager" of your care. Because Hill Physicians has chosen to remove Adventist Health’s outpatient providers from its network, Adventist Health is now considered out-of-network for its Medicare Advantage members.
Do I need to take any action right now?
You may want to contact your health plan (using the number on the back of your insurance card) to learn more about your options and ask:
- “How can I find out which doctors and hospitals will be in-network for me in 2026?”
- “What are my options if I want to continue seeing my current Adventist Health provider?
- “What other medical groups are you contracted with that include Adventist Health providers?”
If you are in active or complex treatment, Continuity of Care protections may apply. These legal protections allow eligible members to continue receiving medically necessary services from their current Adventist Health providers for a transitional period, even if we are no longer in-network. Qualifying conditions typically include care for acute conditions, active cancer treatment, or scheduled major surgeries. For most eligible members, this coverage extends for up to 90 days following the contract termination date. To verify eligibility and request Continuity of Care approval, please contact your health plan’s Member Services department immediately.
You can also take a few simple steps to stay prepared for upcoming conversations with your health plan:
- Keep notes when you speak with a Member Services representative, including the date, the representative’s name, and what they share. This can help you track information over time.
- Make sure your health plan’s Member Services representative has your current contact information (address, phone, email) so you don’t miss important notices.
What should I do if I want to keep my Adventist Health doctors?
The most important step is to contact your health plan directly. Your health plan can explain how this change affects your specific coverage and what options you may have. If keeping your Adventist Health doctor is important to you, you may consider:
- Talking to your health plan about changing medical groups: You can call the Member Services number on the back of your insurance card to learn how this change affects you. Your health plan can provide information on how to request a change to a medical group that still includes your preferred Adventist Health providers. For your reference, our primary and specialty care providers continue to participate in the AllCare medical group. This information is provided to help you understand your options for staying with the doctors you know and trust.
- Asking your health plan about Continuity of Care: If you are in active or ongoing treatment (such as for a chronic condition or a scheduled surgery), you may qualify to continue seeing your Adventist Health provider for a limited time. Your health plan can tell you whether you qualify, what documentation is needed, and how the process works. Be sure to use the specific term "Continuity of Care" when you speak with them.
Will I still be able to go to the emergency room and hospital?
Yes. You can continue using Adventist Health hospitals and emergency services just as you always have. Our agreement with Hill Physicians only applies to clinic‑based services and does not change the in‑network status of our hospitals.
Who can I contact if I still have questions?
