Finding Purpose Through Hospice Volunteering

If you’re looking for a meaningful way to give back, volunteering with Adventist Health Hospice offers a powerful opportunity to make a difference. Our volunteers touch lives every day by bringing comfort, connection, and companionship to patients and families, navigating some of life’s most tender moments. Your time and presence can brighten a day, ease a burden, and strengthen the fabric of our community.

Hospice volunteers support families in many ways. Some offer respite care, spending time with patients so loved ones can take a needed break to run errands or rest. Others help with practical needs, from gardening and walking a patient’s dog to placing phone calls or helping with grocery orders. Even light household tasks such as tidying, preparing simple meals, or assisting with daily routines help patients feel supported at home.

For those who feel called to provide emotional or spiritual support, spending time at a patient’s bedside can bring comfort and peace. That might mean reading aloud, offering a listening ear, sharing a prayer, or simply being a steady, compassionate presence.

Volunteers may also support families after a loss by sending condolence cards, making check-in calls, or offering gentle encouragement during the first year of bereavement.

All volunteers receive one-on-one training & guidance to ensure they are matched with the right opportunities and prepared to offer compassionate, respectful support. While volunteers never provide medical care or administer medications, their contributions are an essential part of whole person care.

If you’re ready to make a meaningful impact, we’d love to connect with you. Your kindness can bring hope, comfort, and connection when it’s needed most.
