Serving With Purpose

Lizette Carbajal’s Mission of Service
When you meet Lizette Carbajal, you are struck not only by her professional accomplishments, but also by the deep compassion she carries for her community. Born near downtown Los Angeles, raised in nearby neighborhoods, and now serving as Vice President of Community Relations and Communications for NBC4 and Telemundo 52, Lizette embodies the story of someone who has lived the challenges her community faces — and is determined to make pathways easier for others.
“I remember seeing my parents navigating systems in a foreign language,” she recalls. “Whether it was healthcare or education, they had to figure it out without a roadmap. That shaped me. It made me want to ensure that communities understand what resources are available, how to access them, and to help make informed decisions for their families.”
That thread — advocating for her community — runs through every role she has held. From her time at SoCalGas to more than a decade in the media, Lizette has strived to be a voice for those often left unheard. Now, she brings that same spirit of service to Adventist Health White Memorial, where she recently stepped into her new role as vice chair of the Adventist Health White Memorial Charitable Foundation board.
A deep-rooted commitment to the community
Lizette’s connection to Adventist Health White Memorial is both professional and personal. “This has always been our community,” she says. “My family’s story started here — in neighborhoods not far from White Memorial. So, stepping into this leadership role isn’t just service. It’s personal. It’s an honor.”
For Lizette, Adventist Health White Memorial is more than a hospital. “It’s a hub of belonging. Families come not only for care but for the Christmas tree lighting, the farmers market, for connection. It’s a place where people know they’ll be guided, whether their need is medical or something else entirely.”
As vice chair, Lizette sees her role as both a leader and a storyteller. “We need to tell our story in ways that connect. When people realize that every dollar, every volunteer hour, every act of generosity is changing lives, it creates momentum. And that momentum sustains the mission.”
Inspired by heritage of leadership
Lizette credits trailblazing women on the board like Leticia Aguilar for showing her the power of Latina leadership. “Leticia inspires me. She shows what it means to lead with strength, intelligence, and authenticity. I hope I can do the same — show up fully, open doors for others, and prepare the next generation of leaders.”
She is especially passionate about workforce development and youth programs. “If we can excite young people early about careers in healthcare, we can fill the pipeline with talent from our own community. That not only builds futures, but it also strengthens the care we give our families.”
Being a force for good
At the heart of her work is a simple belief: success is not measured only in fundraising dollars, but in real lives transformed. “We need to ask ourselves: do we understand the needs of the community? Are we creating programs that fill gaps, whether it’s food security, youth opportunities, or healthcare access? That’s another way we can measure success.”
Lizette’s hope for all who walk through Adventist Health White Memorial’s doors is clear. “We should strive to leave things better,” she says softly. “Because we live, work, and play in these communities. We should care.”
