Simpler Prescription Refill Requests

Simpler Prescription Refill Requests

Getting medications when you need them should be simple. To improve turnaround times and reduce delays, Adventist Health Tillamook has updated how patients should request prescription refills.

As part of our Epic and MyChart transition, refill requests for medications will now be managed through two primary channels: your pharmacy or MyChart. These processes are widely used throughout healthcare and help reduce phone tag, eliminate unnecessary paperwork and ensure refill requests reach the right care team more efficiently.

If your prescription still has refills remaining

If your prescription includes remaining authorized refills, the fastest option is to contact your pharmacy directly.

Your pharmacy can process the refill based on the existing prescription and available refills without involving your provider's office. This remains the quickest way to receive medications when refills are already available.

If you need a new prescription

If you have exhausted all available refills on your prescription, you can request a refill through MyChart.

To submit a request:

  1. Log in to MyChart.
  2. Select Medications.
  3. Choose Request Refill.
  4. Follow the prompts to submit your request.

This electronic process allows your provider's care team to review the request and determine if a new prescription can be issued or if additional follow-up is needed.

Please note that most controlled substances require a new prescription and may require an appointment before they can be renewed.

When an appointment is needed

Some medications require ongoing monitoring and periodic follow-up with your provider. If your provider determines an appointment is needed before renewing a prescription, their office will contact you.

If you have run out of medication and cannot wait for a routine appointment, Adventist Health Urgent Care locations in Tillamook and Manzanita may be able to evaluate your immediate needs, depending on the medication and clinical situation.

A better experience for patients

While this change may feel new to some patients, electronic refill requests through MyChart and pharmacies have become a standard practice throughout healthcare. These workflows help reduce phone tag, eliminate unnecessary paperwork and ensure refill requests reach the right care team more efficiently.

Our goal is to help patients receive the medications they need as quickly and safely as possible while improving communication across the entire care process. We encourage all patients to sign up for MyChart and take advantage of the convenient tools now available through our new electronic health record system.
