What Zero CLABSIs Means for You

Adventist Health St. Helena earns national recognition for patient safety excellence.
At Adventist Health St. Helena, safety isn’t just a goal. It’s a standard upheld by every member of our care team. Thanks to their dedication, we’ve achieved something remarkable: a zero rate of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs), placing us among just 339 hospitals nationwide to earn this recognition from Becker’s Hospital Review and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
What’s a CLABSI and Why Does It Matter?
A CLABSI is a serious infection that can occur when bacteria or viruses enter the bloodstream through a central line (a catheter placed in a large vein). These infections can lead to longer hospital stays, complications, and even life-threatening situations. Preventing them is a key measure of hospital safety, and we’re proud to be setting the standard.
What This Means for Our Patients and Community
- Greater peace of mind. You can trust that the care you receive is backed by proven safety practices.
- Fewer complications. Fewer infections mean quicker recoveries and better outcomes.
- A culture of excellence. This recognition reflects the dedication and collaboration of every nurse, physician, technician, and support staff member.
“This achievement is a powerful testament to the discipline and heart our staff bring to work every day,” said Imee Dahl, Operations and Patient Care Executive. “It comes down to vigilance, teamwork, and doing what’s right day after day to keep our patients safe.”
The work of our care teams shows that excellence in patient safety is no accident. It is intentional, consistent, and deeply personal.
“It’s the result of hundreds of thoughtful decisions and actions made by our physicians, nurses, and clinical staff,” said Steven Herber, MD, President of Adventist Health St. Helena. “Their attention to detail makes this recognition possible. It reflects the quality of care we are committed to providing every day.”
