Improving Access to Care: Welcoming Sarah Rouse, NP to Our Urology Team
Aug 26, 2024
We’re excited to welcome back a familiar face to our provider team. Sarah Rouse, NP is back, joining our team as part of our exceptional team of providers at our urology clinic located at 240 Hospital Drive in Ukiah.
Joining our urology team is much like a homecoming for Sarah. She was a member of our team for over 16 years, caring for patients as a nurse in various departments starting out in our medical/surgical unit, to the surgery department, gastroenterology, ICU, and oncology.
While she was born in Gilroy, Sarah considers Ukiah her home, having lived in the community since she was a child. And she has since raised her own family here.
That’s why even after moving on to work at another hospital out of the area in 2020, Sarah knew she would always be back. “This hospital was my home for many years. And I grew up in this community. The people in this community have helped me grow not just as a provider but also as a person. While I enjoyed working in another hospital out of the area, I really think that it makes a difference when you know the people you are caring for in a small community. Building a trusting relationship is imperative in providing the best care and a positive patient experience."
With over 20 years of experience as a nurse under her belt, she went on to pursue her Master of Science in Nursing from Samuel Merritt University in Oakland and earned her board certification as a family nurse practitioner in 2023.
In addition to many years of experience at the bedside, Sarah also brings with her a passion for helping people and building relationships, borne out of her own experience. “I always wanted to help people. But what truly inspired me was my family and our experience with this hospital. When I was 18 years old, my dad became suddenly ill. He passed away within six weeks from cancer. They took care of my dad, and us. Watching him and my family go through that process, of what it feels like on the side of the patient, inspired me to be on this side of healthcare. And I have loved it ever since.”
Sarah comes from a long line of nurses and nurse practitioners in her family and feels great pride in continuing the family legacy of caring for patients. She says that the time she has spent caring for patients at the bedside has prepared her for this next stage in her career as a provider. Her patient philosophy centers around building trust, open communication, and delivering high quality patient-centered healthcare.
As a board-certified family nurse practitioner specializing in urology, Sarah will be caring for patients with conditions such as urinary infections, hematuria, kidney stones, prostate and bladder cancer, urinary incontinence, testicular mass, urinary retention, among others.
In her free time, Sarah loves spending time with her family and traveling. She enjoys all outdoor activities from biking, running, hiking, and swimming.
