Celebrating Heart Month in Style

February was Heart Month, and at Adventist Health St. Helena, we were proud to focus on what matters most — heart health in our community.

Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. Yet, most cardiovascular diseases can still be prevented with education, and creating awareness about women’s heart health is one way to encourage all women to learn more about how they can prevent this deadly disease.

Adventist Health St. Helena actively promotes heart health education all year long, and during Heart Month in February their “Go Red for Women” activities helped to bring more information about preventing heart disease to more women throughout the community. In addition to sharing a wealth of information about heart healthy strategies at their Go Red for Women event on February 6, Dr. Matthew Cain highlighted the latest advances in cardiac electrophysiology — specialized treatments that help regulate abnormal heart rhythms. And the Mobi Van offered blood pressure checks at Rianda House, creating opportunities for staff to share how monitoring your blood pressure can support a healthy heart.

Showcasing their “going red” for women’s heart health, the team at the hospital created a “heart of humans”, captured by a drone.

Adventist Health St. Helena is recognized nationally for excellence in heart and stroke care, including American Heart Association Gold awards for stroke and rural STEMI treatment and Silver recognition for heart failure care. Our team continues to advance cardiovascular treatment, recently performing a groundbreaking atrial fibrillation procedure, the first of its kind in the nation. Adventist Health St. Helena remains committed to bringing innovative treatment and lifesaving expertise to our community, not just during Heart Month, but all year long

If you have questions about your heart health, talk with your primary care provider about steps you can take today. Small lifestyle changes, like managing blood pressure, staying active, and eating heart-healthy foods, can make a lasting difference.

At Adventist Health St. Helena, we are committed to keeping hearts healthy, this month and all year long.
