Adventist Health Welcomes Internal Medicine Residents to Bakersfield

Adventist Health is proud to welcome its first class of internal medicine residents to Bakersfield, marking an exciting milestone in the organization’s commitment to expanding access to quality care, addressing a physician shortage, and advancing medical education in Kern County.

The four residents — Drs. Mineli Harteni, Mohammed Obaidat, Nidhi Rao, and Jaskaran Singh — joined the Bakersfield Internal Medicine Residency Program this summer. Each will complete three years of comprehensive clinical training at Adventist Health Bakersfield, Adventist Health Specialty Bakersfield, and Adventist Health Physicians Network Primary Care.

Led by Program Director Leila Moosavi, MD, the residency program is designed to train compassionate, skilled physicians who will help address the growing need for primary care in Kern County.

“We are thrilled to welcome our first class of internal medicine residents to Bakersfield,” said Dr. Moosavi. “These physicians bring incredible talent, heart, and dedication to our community. As they learn and grow, they are also helping to meet a vital need by expanding access to adult primary care in the region.”

Resident physicians are medical doctors who have completed medical school and are continuing specialized training in their chosen field.

Meet our resident physicians

Mineli Harteni, MD

Dr. Harteni was born in Iran, moved to Los Angeles, and now calls the Central Valley home. She earned her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. Prior to medical school, she conducted brain cancer research at UCLA. “Guided by my belief in service and community, I hope to one day provide care to underserved areas around the world.”

Mohammed Obaidat, MD

Dr. Obaidat graduated from the Jordan University of Science and Technology and is honored to join the founding class of residents at Adventist Health Bakersfield. “I’m excited to turn challenges into opportunities as we help shape this new program and serve our community.”

Nidhi Rao, MD

A graduate of K.A.P. Viswanatham Government Medical College in Tiruchirappalli, India, Dr. Rao is excited to begin her journey in Bakersfield. “I’m grateful for the chance to learn, grow, and serve the community alongside the supportive and dynamic team at Adventist Health.”

Jaskaran Singh, MD

Originally from Barwala, Hisar, India, Dr. Singh completed his medical training at MMIMSR in Mullana, Ambala. “I’m excited to begin this next chapter in a collaborative and supportive environment,” he said. “I’m thankful to my mentors and especially my parents for their unwavering love and sacrifices.”

Increasing access to care

All four residents are accepting new adult patients (ages 18 and older) for a range of services, including wellness visits, hypertension management, diabetes care, and other internal medicine needs.
