Adventist Health Sonora Welcomes Second Cohort of Family Medicine Resident Physicians

The Family Medicine Residency Rural Training Track at Adventist Health Sonora is welcoming its second cohort of four family medicine physicians who will complete hands-on residency training and provide primary care services in Sonora for the next two years. After earning their medical degrees, they completed their first year of residency training at Adventist Health Hanford and will complete their second and third years of residency in Sonora.

In rural areas throughout the U.S., residents often face significant barriers to healthcare access because of chronic shortages of healthcare providers, according to the Health Resources and Services Administration. The residency program aims to grow and retain family medicine physicians to improve access to primary care services that are critical to the health of our community.

“One of our core beliefs as an organization is that our rural community deserves accessible, quality healthcare,” says Greg McCulloch, Adventist Health Sonora president. “This program is building a pipeline of homegrown healthcare professionals so we can serve the needs of our community, now and into the future.”

Each physician brings a passion for whole-person care and serving rural and underserved communities. As an accredited graduate medical education program, this residency provides advanced training to family medicine physicians with a special emphasis on the unique needs of rural communities. Four new resident physicians will join the program each year.

The Family Medicine Residency Medical Office is accepting new patients with most health insurance plans, including Medi-Cal and Medicare. To schedule an appointment, call 209-536-5100.
