Adventist Health Simi Valley Offers VARIPULSE™
Oct 15, 2025
Adventist Health Simi Valley is proud to be one of only a few hospitals in the region to introduce VARIPULSE™ Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA), an advanced technology that offers a safer and more precise option for treating atrial fibrillation (AFib). The procedure targets abnormal electrical signals in the heart, helping restore normal rhythm and reduce the risk of stroke.
The VARIPULSE™ procedure is a minimally invasive treatment that uses a specialized catheter to deliver pulsed electrical energy to precise areas of the heart responsible for irregular rhythms.
Unlike traditional heat- or cold-based ablation methods, pulsed field ablation selectively targets the pulmonary veins — common sources of abnormal signals — while protecting surrounding structures such as the esophagus and phrenic nerve.
“This technique delivers quick electrical pulses that target problematic areas, providing us with reliable lesions that change the heart tissue to correct the rhythm problem,” said Miguel Salazar, MD, electrophysiologist at Adventist Health Simi Valley. “Because it’s minimally invasive, most patients go home the same day and recover quickly.”
Additionally, VARIPULSE™ PFA is proving to be just as effective — or even more so — than traditional ablation with fewer serious complications. “We believe this technology provides patients with the best outcomes and we’re proud to offer it close to home to our communities in Simi Valley,” Dr. Salazar said.
