Adventist Health on the Central Coast Celebrates World Breastfeeding Week

This World Breastfeeding Week, (August 1-7) Adventist Health on the Central Coast is celebrating the many benefits breastfeeding can provide for both babies and mothers. This annual campaign is coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF. It’s a time to recognize breastfeeding as a powerful foundation for lifelong health, development, and equity.

Adventist Health’s lactation team is staffed by several International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) who provide personalized care, expert support and guidance helping mothers during every step of their breastfeeding journey, from their baby's first latch to every milestone that follows. Consultants are available to help new moms:

  • Evaluate how much milk your baby is getting
  • Assist with latch and positioning
  • Help alleviate pain
  • Answer any questions about infant feeding

Adventist Health's commitment to supporting breastfeeding extends beyond individualized care. Adventist Health Sierra Vista has earned the prestigious Baby-Friendly Hospital designation through 2028 from Baby-Friendly USA, recognizing its commitment to providing the highest standard of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies. The Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, launched by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), recognizes hospitals that implement evidence-based practices to support successful breastfeeding and maternal-infant bonding. Adventist Health Twin Cities is also a Baby-Friendly designated hospital, earning its second designation in 2020, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to excellence in maternity and newborn care.

Lactation consultants are available to help families meet their infant feeding goals. For questions about services, or to schedule an outpatient lactation consultation, please call the Breastfeeding Warmline at 805-434-4644.
