Therapies Offered at Adventist Health Hanford

Adventist Health Hanford’s physical therapists provide therapy for a variety of needs and conditions. Our team takes a personalized approach to each case, ensuring your unique needs are met so you get as timely and complete of a recovery as possible.

Arthritis therapy

Our therapists treat painful areas with manual therapy and soft-tissue mobilization. In addition, we will design a strengthening and stretching program specifically for your needs, providing you with safe ways to control your arthritis and limit discouraging painful flare-ups.

While there is no cure for arthritis, therapy can help to decrease pain and swelling and while increasing the range of motion associated with osteoarthritis. Our therapy can help you to return to normal activities and improve your independence.

Balance and fall-prevention

Aging can worsen our balance while standing, walking or engaging in other activities. Your initial evaluation will include an assessment of your balance and how to address these issues. Your therapist will assess your range of motion, strength, flexibility and posture to determine how these may be affecting your balance and how to improve your overall quality of life.

Hand therapy

Adventist Health Physical Therapy Hanford is the only outpatient physical therapy clinic in Kings County with a certified hand therapist. Hand and arm injuries can be hard to rehabilitate.

We use a wide variety of approaches to treat and retrain patients who suffer from swelling, pain, weakness, numbness, tingling or disease. We also help with injuries to nerves, bones, tendons, ligaments or muscles in the hand.

Joint replacement therapy

With joint replacement therapy, our goal is to help you manage your pain so you can return to your normal activities again. Our services include:

  • Education before a joint replacement surgery
  • Pain management
  • Treatment and exercise programs after surgery

Our physical therapists are specifically trained to help as you recover from hip replacement, knee replacement and shoulder replacement surgeries.

Manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and functional training

Our therapists treat muscle tension, muscle spasm and joint dysfunction by using their hands to put pressure on muscle tissue and mobilize joints in order to decrease pain and increase mobility. Your personalized treatment program will increase and improve your strength, balance and coordination. Your custom program may include specific stretching, strengthening and cardiovascular activities.

Neurological therapy

Neurological conditions are among the most physically, mentally and emotionally challenging issues for the patient and family. At Adventist Health Physical Therapy, we help patients and their families turn dysfunction into function and independence again.

Neurological conditions can include:

  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
  • Brain injury
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Stroke

Our therapy staff works closely with patients and families to help improve how independently our patients can function.

Treatments may consist of balance and gait training, endurance and strength training, practicing functional isolated movements, orthotic fabrication and training, speech and communication training, cognitive retraining, swallowing retraining, and hand and upper extremity therapy.

Orthopedic therapy

Orthopedic therapy uses a variety of treatments to reduce your pain, restore the range of motion in your joints, and strengthen and recondition your body. Our orthopedic clinical specialists will help you discover the source of your injury and ease your pain.

Sports therapy

Our therapists can help you quickly recover from your sports-related injury. We provide treatments designed to reduce pain and restore your ability. Sports therapies include:

  • Joint mobilization
  • Soft tissue mobilization
  • Flexibility conditioning
  • Strength training
  • Trunk stabilization
  • Endurance training
  • Sports-specific exercises
  • Any other needed modalities

Our therapists take a whole-system approach when working with athletes. Treatment of an athletic injury includes therapy directed at the specific body part in addition to an assessment of surrounding joints and muscles. Having a previous injury may put you at an increased risk of re-injury, so our therapists will also screen for any movement problems that may be contributing to the injury.

Speech therapy

Our Adventist Health Physical Therapy Hanford location is the only outpatient physical therapy clinic in Kings County with a speech-language pathologist. Speech therapists work to evaluate and treat speech, language, cognition, communication and swallowing disorders in all ages, from children to the elderly.

On your first visit, our speech therapist will perform a comprehensive evaluation to test your abilities and struggles. We build your care plan based on your goals. Our speech therapists also perform video fluoroscopic swallow studies (modified barium swallow studies) to check the physical side of how you are swallowing.
