Adventist Health’s legacy in Butte County was established in 1950 when the Feather River Sanitarium was built as a 15-bed facility to treat the Ridge community. Before closing in 2018 due to the devastating Camp Fire, Adventist Health Feather River was home to a 100-bed facility offering compassionate care along with advanced technology.

Today, Adventist Health’s network of care in Butte and Tehama counties is an integral part of the Adventist Health system. Adventist Health stands as a highly regarded healthcare provider in northern California and has been awarded some of the industry's highest scores for overall quality. In 2004 the medical center in Paradise was named as one of Solucient's top 100 medical centers for performance improvement. In 2008 and 2010, Adventist Health Feather River was awarded the Gold CAPE (California Awards for Performance Excellence) by the California Council for Excellence, a state-level Baldrige program. In 2011, the facility was awarded the California Governor’s Award for Excellence.

Located where the fertile valley floor meets the recreation-rich Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountain ranges, Butte County exemplifies how seemingly contrasting characteristics—valleys and mountains, rural communities and urban centers, farms and cities—come together perfectly. Known for extensive agricultural bounty as well as an abundance of outdoor activities including hiking, biking, golfing and plenty of water sports on expansive Lake Oroville, Butte County is home to California State University – Chico and Butte College. Tehama County boasts an array of agricultural crops including olives, almonds, walnuts and hosts the highly popular Red Bluff Roundup each year, showcasing an extensive heritage of cattle ranches.
