Community Foundation San Luis Obispo Grant Expands Perinatal Mental Health Support

The Adventist Health Central Coast Foundation is proud to announce a $33,000 grant from the Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County’s Women’s Legacy Fund to strengthen perinatal mental health services at Adventist Health Sierra Vista and Adventist Health Twin Cities.

Over two years, the grant will support specialized training for International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants and registered nurses through Postpartum Support International’s Perinatal Mental Health Certificate Program. Four lactation consultants and four nurses will complete the training in year one, followed by two additional lactation consultants and two nurses in year two.

The funding will also support standardized screening in both Mother and Baby units, stronger referral coordination with OB-GYNs and pediatricians, and postpartum support groups at both hospitals.

Developed in response to needs identified by our physicians and nurses, this initiative will help teams recognize concerns earlier and connect mothers and families with consistent support.

We are deeply grateful to the Community Foundation San Luis Obispo County and the Women’s Legacy Fund for investing in local mothers and families.
