Small Acts, Big Impact: The Power of Our People in Action
May 5, 2026
Adventist Health Portland’s Community Benefit team kicked off 2026 with strong momentum, bringing employees together to support our community partners in meaningful, hands-on ways. From meeting immediate needs to strengthening key partnerships, the first three months of 2026 reflected the power of our mission in action.
In January, members of the Volunteer Squad came together for a high-impact, 30-minute build event, assembling 500 winter kits, the most we’ve ever completed in a single session. Each kit included essentials like socks, gloves, snacks, and first aid supplies. These kits were distributed through Blanchet House to individuals experiencing homelessness in our community, helping meet critical needs during the coldest time of year.
Our employees also showed up in a big way for a Q1 puzzle and game drive. Together, we collected 20 large boxes of books, puzzles, and games. Too many for one community partner! These donations were delivered to Oregon Change Clinic, where residents can check out items during their free time, supporting moments of connection, relaxation, and normalcy for individuals navigating recovery and housing transitions. Additional donations were shared with Portland Rescue Mission and Blanchet House extending the impact across multiple community partners.
In addition to hands-on volunteer efforts, Adventist Health Portland continued to invest in key partnerships through sponsorships and engagement. We served as a table sponsor at the Helping Hands Brunch on March 1, supporting the vital work of Blanchet House. We also sponsored Portland Rescue Mission’s Birthday Bash on March 19. This event that brings meals, games, and a sense of celebration to individuals experiencing homelessness.
To further deepen our connection to community needs, members of the Volunteer Committee participated in a site visit at Blanchet House. This visit provided a closer look at daily operations and offered valuable insight into emerging initiatives such as Bethanie’s Room, helping ensure our efforts remain aligned with where support is needed most.
From assembling winter kits to supporting recovery through simple acts of generosity, Q1 efforts demonstrate what’s possible when we come together with purpose. Every volunteer hour, donation, and partnership helps build a healthier, more connected community—and we’re just getting started.
